I'm too cheap to buy a new bike, and none of the used bikes recent enough to be in perfect functional condition right off the bat appeal to me. That means that buying a bike is a synonym for fixing a bike, and owning a bike is a synoynm for progressively rectifying all the little mechanical, ergonomic, and cosmetic annoyances that any old bike has accumulated through its life (or, quite honestly, started with).

The short, sharp process of getting a motorcycle concluded for me in the dark days of summer 2022, when Facebook Marketplace was a horrifically inflated wasteland. Being cheap as fuck, I resolved not to spend more than two grand on a hobby I was still very new to. Eventually, I found a CB160 just over the border for a alright price - and look at that, the owner even says it's rideable!

The warning signs started before I'd even signed the title. On my test ride, the bike stalled horrifically easily as I tried to slip it out onto the road, and the owner had the gall to blame me - "are you sure you know how to ride?". I trundled slowly around the block, not caring that the speedo didn't work, that the headlight was dead - just as soon as I signed this title, I'd have a motorcycle!
